ABOUT
Saigon is proud to be South Africa's first
Vietnamese restaurant, founded by Ernst Fischer.
Celebrating more than 2 decades of creating
unforgettable culinary experiences and enduring
moments at Saigon. From the first dish, served
in 1997 and curated by Head Chef Van My, to our
carefully curated menu today, we remain true to
the authenticity and creativity that defined our
beginnings.
We are deeply grateful to you, our guests, for
being at the heart of our journey. As we continue
to evolve, we stay steadfast in our commitment
to excellence and to delivering a dining expe-
rience that is truly unparalleled in Cape Town.
Here's to the next chapter, together. Thank you
for your ongoing support.
CHEF VAN MY
Born in Saigon, Chef Van My’s journey began
in his family-owned restaurants, with regional
Vietnamese training sparked by his
grandmother. In 1987 he moved to Germany
to train in Western and Chinese cuisines,
launching his international career.
Back in Saigon, he worked at Omni Saigon Ho-
tel, then in Hong Kong, Singapore, and New
York. In 1997 he moved to Cape Town with his
wife Kim Anh to establish Saigon Vietnamese
Restaurant—the first Vietnamese eatery in South
Africa. Today, as co-owner, he blends
traditional Vietnamese flavours
with innovative modern Asian influences.
FOOD
Saigon offers a vibrant fusion of modern
Vietnamese and Asian cuisine infused
with traditional flavours. Our menu features
iconic dishes alongside seasonal specials,
showcasing Chef My’s signature creations, Pho
with beef short rib, roast duck, crispy ginger
fish, slow-roasted ribs, and Nikkei lamb chops.
In addition, we offer an innovative selection
of premium sushi and fresh dumplings.
